A 5-month-old baby boy has died after being attacked by a shark in the Kimberley, according to the Queensland government.
The boy was on a beach in the state’s north-west when a shark came up to him and bit him in the head, the ABC reported.
“The baby boy was not breathing and the baby was on the beach and he was being attacked,” Deputy Premier John Rau said.
“This is a very tragic incident.”
Police said they were looking for the shark, which was not identified.
It was the second fatal attack of its kind in the area in just two months.
On March 26, a 20-year old man was bitten by a large shark in a nearby beach.
The man was taken to hospital, but died a few days later.
